Services and fit

What is a managed service provider, and why use one?

A managed service provider (MSP) handles agreed IT jobs for your business, such as helping an employee who can’t sign in, keeping work computers updated, and managing account permissions and Microsoft 365. It gives employees one place to ask for IT help and keeps routine upkeep from being put off when nobody has time for it. At Geekland IT, your proposal lists the services we’d provide, and your service agreement lists the ones you’ve agreed to.

What services does Geekland IT offer?

Geekland IT offers managed IT, cybersecurity, Microsoft 365 and cloud services, and AI consulting and automation. Managed IT includes business-hours employee support for every person on the plan, and Full users, the people who work at a computer we manage, also get computer updates and monitoring. A cybersecurity assessment gives you a written report and presentation of findings and recommended fixes. For AI, we advise on where it fits, build the automations, connect them to your systems, and keep them running afterward.

Does Geekland IT offer support for small and medium-sized businesses?

Yes. Geekland IT works with small and medium-sized businesses across the Twin Cities, nearby suburbs, and western Wisconsin. Tell us what employees use their computers for, such as email, customer records, or a business application, and we’ll explain how we’d support that work.

Why should I choose Geekland IT?

Geekland IT is a good fit if you want to understand what an IT change would fix before agreeing to it. We’re veteran-owned, and founder Kevin Prow has 20+ years of technology experience, including serving as CIO of an Inc. 5000 company. His CIO experience taught him that security has to be built into every part of a business, including how people sign in and use their computers. Ask us to explain why a recommended change matters to your business now.

Can you work alongside our internal IT person?

Yes. We work alongside your internal IT person through a co-managed IT arrangement, with each side’s jobs agreed before services begin. We’ll talk through how tasks such as password resets, computer updates, and account permissions are divided between us. If you want Geekland IT to handle IT support completely, that’s an option too.

Can the service plan fit our existing setup?

Yes. We learn which applications employees use, which computers they run on, and what happens when something stops working, including the jobs you want to keep in-house. The plan then sets out what Geekland IT would handle and any changes needed at the start.

Do you manage software updates and aging equipment?

Yes. Managed IT includes updates, monitoring, and routine maintenance for the computers on your plan, and patching covers the operating system and the other software those computers run. We also help you plan replacements when equipment becomes unreliable, is no longer supported, or can’t do the job you need it to do, and we explain why we recommend replacing something rather than basing the decision on its age alone.

How do you help protect our business?

Managed IT includes multi-factor authentication setup and periodic access reviews, helping you check who can sign in and what they can open. Email filtering addresses phishing, spam, and malware, and security awareness training helps employees recognize suspicious messages that ask them to open a file or enter a password. Full users also get endpoint protection and computer updates. Microsoft 365 account backups and computer backups can be added, and we check how often backups run.

Can Geekland IT help with compliance and data privacy regulations?

Yes. Geekland IT helps businesses work toward compliance frameworks by setting up multi-factor authentication, running access reviews, securing and encrypting email, and handling onboarding and offboarding. For healthcare practices, we help address IT security needs and relevant HIPAA requirements.

Support

When is support available, and what about after-hours emergencies?

Support hours are Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central Time, with 24/7 phone support for emergencies. Emergency support is available nights and weekends, so call Geekland IT when a problem can’t wait until the next business day.

How quickly can Geekland IT respond to IT issues?

Most tickets get an answer within about an hour, even low-priority ones. Our response targets are eight business hours for a first response and twenty minutes for an emergency. That usual one-hour response isn’t a guarantee, and how long a fix takes depends on the problem.

We treat a suspected security incident, a whole office or everyone being unable to work, or a critical system being down as an emergency. Anything else that needs help right away and can’t wait counts as an emergency too. If only one person is affected, there’s a workaround, or the problem can wait for normal hours, it’s routine. We set priority based on how many people are affected and how urgent the problem is. Call for an emergency, and use the Client portal or [email protected] for routine requests.

How do employees request help?

Employees at client businesses can use the Client portal, call (612) 439-5444, or email [email protected]. The request and troubleshooting stay together in a ticket, and you’ll get email updates until it’s closed. The Client portal also has a knowledge base with answers to common questions. When you send a request, include what you were trying to do, the application involved, and any error message you saw. If the problem involves your business software, we bring in its vendor as needed.

Pricing and agreements

How do you decide what IT support costs?

Pricing depends mainly on how many users and computers we support and how complicated your setup is. A computer used mostly for email has different support needs from one that runs several business applications, and we talk through those details to work out which services your business needs.

Can I get an estimate before committing to a service?

Yes, we give you a proposal that lists the services we’d provide and what they’d cost. That’s your estimate, and nothing starts until you’ve read it and agreed. If anything is unclear, ask us as you review it.

How is billing handled at Geekland IT?

We invoice electronically, and your service agreement lists the services you’ve agreed to. You can refer to it when you want to check what you’re paying for.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept ACH, credit card, and check.
