ABOUT GEEKLAND IT

Meet Kevin Prow,
founder of
Geekland IT.

Kevin Prow served as a CIO and as Vice President of Information Services before founding Geekland IT. He still runs the company, which he started to give smaller businesses access to IT and cybersecurity skills they usually can’t get on their own.

Geekland IT is a veteran-owned IT provider in Lakeville. We handle everyday support and upkeep, and we bring the same thinking Kevin used as a CIO to security, vendor relationships, and decisions about what your business should spend on technology.

THE PERSON BEHIND GEEKLAND IT

From the CIO’s office
to Geekland IT.

Kevin Prow has 20+ years of technology experience, including serving as Vice President of Information Services and as CIO of an Inc. 5000 company.

As CIO, Kevin could bring his IT and cybersecurity experience to one company, but decisions there often moved slowly, and there was only so much room to make an impact. He started Geekland IT so small and medium businesses could get enterprise-level IT and cybersecurity help they couldn’t get on their own, and so the technology they pay for would help them get more done and give them more room to grow.

Cybersecurity and cloud technology were central to the company he built. His years as a CIO convinced him that security has to be part of every corner of a business, because the people defending it have to be right every time, while an attacker only has to be right once. At Geekland IT, that means talking about account access and backups while a change is being planned, rather than waiting until it’s made.

Kevin’s experience also includes leading cloud-first projects. Geekland IT works with cloud technologies, including Microsoft Azure, and plans that work with each business based on the applications involved and what they cost to run.

Kevin’s CIO experience also shapes how we explain recommendations, because we start with the business problem a change would solve, such as a shared login that gives too many people access, rather than with the product.

HOW GEEKLAND IT DECIDES

What you can expect
from Geekland IT.

01 / THE REASON

Understand why a change is recommended.

Every recommendation comes with the reason behind it: what the change would fix, why it matters for your setup now, and what happens if it waits. You get that before you spend anything, so the decision stays yours.

When a problem involves a software vendor, we say so, and we take it up with that vendor rather than leaving you in the middle.

02 / THE NEXT STEP

See the options before choosing.

When there’s more than one way to solve a problem, we lay out what each option would change for the people using the system, such as keeping the same application or learning a different one.

After learning what you need, Geekland IT puts the recommended services in a written proposal. Use it to check which computers and accounts the plan would manage and which additions, such as Microsoft 365 licensing or computer backups, you want to add.

03 / THE PROTECTION

Consider security while planning a change.

Security comes into the plan while a change is being made, not afterward. When we set up a new employee or move files to a different system, we decide with you who can open what and whether it’s backed up.

Day to day, that means MFA setup, periodic access reviews, and checking how often backups run; computer backups can be added.

A LOCAL WORKING RELATIONSHIP

Located in Lakeville, Minnesota.

From Lakeville, Geekland IT works with businesses across the Twin Cities, nearby suburbs, and western Wisconsin. Getting to know your office matters too, including the applications you rely on, the problems employees run into, and the decisions you need to make.

01

Someone who knows your setup

Support goes better when we know the applications you run and the problems your office has already worked through. We also send a monthly health report on the systems we manage, so you can see what we’re looking after.

02

Practical recommendations

We recommend what your business needs and tell you which changes can wait. When a computer or system still does its job well, we say so.

03

Know what’s included

Your service agreement sets out what Geekland IT will manage, so you know what’s included and your employees know where to ask for help.

Each person on the plan is a Lite user, who works mainly in email and shared files, or a Full user, who also has a computer we manage, and the Managed IT page compares the two side by side. Microsoft 365 licensing and computer backups can be added.

LET’S TALK

Ask about the decision behind
the recommendation.

Bring a decision you’re weighing, whether it’s a technology purchase, a security concern, or a change in how your business is supported. We’ll explain which services Geekland IT would handle, what belongs to your software vendor, and whether an optional addition such as computer backups would be useful for your business.
